SEEDS OF DESTRUCTION

  1. It’s truly heartbreaking that Harriet and many other female slaves had to go through such hardships that could be traumatizing for life. Through the many years of being taught about slavery, they never placed much focus on the struggles that female slaves in specific encountered, but after having watched this video I believe its a topic that should be elaborated on more in school. One of the the facts that stuck with me is that the courts back then didn’t recognize the rape of a black woman as rape and it just saddens me.

  2. “There is no such thing as raps of black woman” that sickens me to know if times had not changed I would have been a victim. They were all so sad beaten, raped, and tortured as human beings and to think this was going on from birth to death is devastating.

  3. This is one of the reasons why history should be taught in classrooms without being so extremely “watered down” or “romanticized” as if life was so happy and contented for slaves. I wasn’t surprised by this, and but it still sickens me.

  4. oh, my gosh. my heart is broken. I always knew that their was rapping and mistreatment by the male owners to their slaves but watching this documentary has brought me to tears to see not only were they forcing them to have sexual activity with them but they were causing them to become pregnant then selling their offspring as well. How do you sell your very own child?

  5. This video showed me the additional hardships that enslaved females had to take on because of their gender. The story of Harriet Jacobs was a heartbreaking one, showing how she was only 12 years old when the owners wife was overwhelmed with jealousy and saw her as a threat because her husband would go after her due to her beauty.

  6. During watching this video i came to learn many things. I learned how female house slaves we looked at by their male owners and how basically none of them were safe. I found it heartbreaking that basically they were taken advantage of and were most of the time forced to have sexual acts, causing them to become pregnant most of the time. I learned that most male slave owners would sale off their own offspring. Furthering that they really didn’t care about slaves nor their own blood. I was astonished that their were more interracial pregnancies than any other.
