  1. This video shows over the years how others see blacks and mock our culture. Its crazy that they build this whole perception of another race and having people believe that all black people are the same. Making untrue stereotypes and over doing facial features for black people faces on the shows. Its ugly just to have to watch this video.

  2. This video showed how African Americans were portrayed by the whites and how they used them as a source of entertainment. Also, they imitated them and made fun of them. They develop a character that made them look like they were where happy and that they were always obedient. It is sad to see how they didn’t treat them right and how they used them as a source of entertainment.

  3. Watching this video is very gut wrenching because these elements can still be seen in today’s movies, TV shows, and music without people recognizing it as potential “blackface”. In the midst of everything going on many actors/actresses, singers/rappers, and celebrities are silent. A lot of rappers and singers use the same terms that were made to belittle Black people in their music which is appeasing to their white listeners. Now I can’t talk mess without calling out myself for supporting these same people. I like a lot of people are not educated on our proper history and to how we are still stuck under our white counterparts especially when it comes to entertainment. They continue to exploit us for their pleasure and we hardly bat an eye and question “is this really within the best interests of our people?”.

  4. I find it very ironic that you can use someone culture and skin color for entertainment but then 20 years later, your tanning so hard to be just like that “black color” or fighting on social media to wear cornrows. This video is a great depiction of the true America and I believe that as a community, videos like this should of course make us upset and bring awareness but it should empower us because the truth is they know that we are special and it kills them that they can never be like us.

  5. This video is very upsetting because it shows how african american’s were made fun of and called evil names like coons, donkey, and even made horrible songs on tv for everyone to see. It also shows when blackface comes into play, and that’s something ignorant people are still doing to this day. it makes me angry watching this video seeing how white people took our culture and made into jokes, and took away our voice to express our culture how we wanted. Just seeing how they came up with jim crow, it’s disgusting and people really looked at that as entertainment

  6. Even centuries later the stereotypes of African Americans run close to the same even to POC but thankfully African Americans have started to understand the natural beauty of their looks and personality

  7. Its eveident to me that we were mocked because we were envied. They could never have nor dream to be what we are so they parade around in our costumes as a joke the same way a kid would wear a superman costume for halloween.

  8. this perception of dark individuals as we don’t have a similar equivalent rights. White individuals utilized African American culture for their own diversion by painting their face dark The dark network couldn’t communicate openly in light of the fact that the white individuals took our OWN way of life, and transformed into something that African Americans could never do. You can tell from simply this video how white individuals saw African Americans and how that will remain engraved into a great deal of their psyche and instructed to their youngsters etc into the present society. The dark network couldn’t communicate openly in light of the fact that the white individuals took our OWN way of life, and transformed into something that African Americans could never do.

  9. In this video, white people are making a mockery out of African Americans by calling us ugly, savages, beasts, n***ers , coon, and happy servants. White people used African American culture for their own entertainment by painting their face black and their lips white and making black men look like a joke. They also made black women look big and ugly as if they are not beautiful, and are only good for being a happy servant. They even made the children look like wild savages and allowed animals to eat them in the cartoons. The black community was not able to express themselves freely because the white people took our OWN culture, and turned into something that African Americans would never do.

  10. Black people portrayed uglily and still allowed to nurse or take care of white kids as well as serve white people??? Videos like this in my opinion should make black people nothing but much stronger because although the society still has not given them the respect and all else they deserve after going through all the known hardship, they have stood strong enough and competed at all levels. What’s even more important to notice is that black people have shown if treated the same as everyone, they can be better than those who constantly look down on them…

  11. It’s crazy how mistreated the black community was back then, but also today in society. I felt so uncomfortable watching this video. White people have continued to have this perception of black people like we don’t possess the same equal rights. They continue to degrade us in any time of way they feel is necessary.

  12. It is very sad how Blacks were depicted in a humorous, demeaning nature. The created stereotypes in community that they had never even been apart of. It is insane how the stereotypes back then still live on today. Many of types of Black people listed on the video during that time Black people of today are still trying to debunk those same myths of the Black culture. Also it still amaze me how the where able to dress up as blacks and try to imitate our culture so much but they also hated to be near us. How can you purposely act like and dress like people below you but loved to do it so much. Today whites still try to assimilate black culture that had once tried to insult before.

  13. After watching the first half of the video I began to feel very uncomfortable and disgusted because of how African American were being mocked as well as how they saw African Americans. Page after page my anger and disgust kept rising because while this is focused on one race you can tell by the video that the other race, the white race, enjoyed this because they thought it was correct and funny. You can tell from just this video how white people perceived African Americans and how that will stay engraved into a lot of their mind and taught to their children and so on and so forth into today’s society.

  14. Throughout the entire video i felt myself going from upset to angry, angry at the mockery the white men presented of the black race, but upset for my people. The way the the white man tried to brainwash the audience by trying to make it seem as though the black race was happy and needed to stay in their place, is the same thing their doing today but this time by trying to make us remain silent. Its a never ending cycle with the white race. I’m so exhausted for my people.

  15. i was really disappointted watching this video because all the coon jokes they were making and how they just make the black race look like jokes and with the situation going on in the world now they may start making jokes out of us. -maurice bettis

  16. After watching this video, I was very upset. It left me wondering if they mocked black people like they did, why were they allowed to take of the house? Breastfeed their children? I have so many questions as to why we were treated as “coons”, if they literally needed us to stay alive? I hated the cartoons and songs that were presented in the video as well. My ancestors went through so much back then and it makes me angry for them.

    1. i completely agree with you have stated Paige, the way that our people are being portrayed in this video is outrageous and degrading. it was an eye opener to how white people looked at us and how they still possibly look at us in today’s time (i.e. “our” president).

  17. As a child, my grandmother and mother forbid me to watch or even a lot of these images out of the fear that my brothers and I would emulate them. They never wanted us to see ourselves in those demeaning images. I’m simply saddened by how these notions and images have simply evolved as time has gone on.

  18. I find this video is just super disgusting and the coon jokes are not funny it’s sad that they find hurtful things amusing, and how they thought that all African-Americans loved watermelon which it’s true. Most whites were and still are just bullies to other races. Black people are strong and brave and I love that. And still can’t believe that they thought that children were just like animals thats so crazy , and the children continue to disappear . You have to be a heartless hateful person to hurt babies. And still till this day you see top fashion designers use the blackface as fashion statements that’s sad.

  19. It is astonishing how mainstream caricatures made nearly a century ago establish the base to African-American racial stereotypes that we still face today.

  20. This is a sad and disgusting way to portray us. Giving us stereotypes and over exaggerating the truths is wrong. The fact that people, back then, found those old cartoons and plays funny is terrible.

    1. i just think it’s weird to create shows based off your perception of an entire race. Its not their life. It’s sad that others watched the shows and adapted to that same point of view of African Americans.

  21. It’s embarrassing how they mocked African Americans. They made them look like they were clowns and nobody took them seriously.
